I’m Matt Marson. I’m originally from Nottingham, but I moved up to Hull to study graphic design in 1998 and have stayed in the area. I now live in North Cave.

My interests include art, films (especially Horror and Sci-Fi), Anime, Tattoos, Music and cars.

I don’t remember a time when I haven’t drawn or painted. I’ve always been interested in the arts and it’s an interest that has never waned, no matter what other distractions I’ve found through my life. I’ve always been interested in cars - which I can blame my Dad for, as we spent many hours keeping our decrepit Hillman Hunter going in my early years – and have always loved the look of signwriting and pinstriping on motors.

The real turning point came from watching the cheesy, “we’re gonna lose the shop!” TV shows in the 2000s. I was really interested to see the paint process, but especially when they brought the pinstripers in to add the finishing touches. I loved how that last stage finished off the vehicle and added an individual touch. I also loved to watch the actual process of the pinstriping.

I was hooked.

My friends got together and bought me a Pinstriping UK starter kit for my 30th birthday. I messed around with it, but upheavals in my life and my general lack of motivation scuppered any real progress. 8 years ago, it felt like everything came together. I was finally happy with myself, was with the love of my life and – for want of a better term – felt comfortable in my own skin. I decided it was time to put up or shut up, and I’m happy to say I just took to it.
Sometimes I regret not picking up the brushes sooner, but I wasn’t ready before.

I love what I do, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
